Natasha Evans

Artist Biography

Natasha was born in Zimbabwe in 1978 and raised in Zambia. She moved to England in her early twenties to study art on the South Coast.

After completing her BA Hons Degree in Illustration and having lived a total of nine years abroad, she returned to Zambia, where she now lives with her husband and four children in Lusaka. Natasha creates contemporary mixed media works, limited edition prints, and functional art pieces in her purpose-built studio. Over the last ten years, Natasha has exhibited in various group exhibitions and has had three solo exhibitions. She is building a growing list of buyers and collectors and is currently working on a new body of work.

Regarding her work, Natasha says, 'The stories I have collected, some of which I thought I had forgotten, are stories that I carry with me and that spill into the art I create. Gradually, the need to categorize my style has fallen away as I shift between abstract and figurative forms. I work with painting and collage, incorporating gestural mark-making, text, and experimental photography into my practice. In my most current work, I use objects as metaphors in unique conversations with my larger format paintings. I strive to use materials and techniques with purpose, so the bigger idea has more depth.'

'Art, to me, is innate. It has to resonate, and at the very least, it has to be honest.'
