Claire is a figurative and portrait painter drawn to the idea of storytelling through her paintings. Having received training in London in the old master techniques, her work is deeply rooted in the tradition of technical skill while also embracing work that is more expressive. Living in Zimbabwe, she draws on the daily influences and inspiration from her vibrant surroundings.

"Connection in difference" is a theme Claire is drawn to in her paintings. She explains, "I'd like to disrupt people from their preconceptions. Africa has a lot of those. But we are all connected, and if we're open to it, we can recognize ourselves in another, even if they are so far removed from us. I believe the experience of pausing and reflecting on stories that are not our own can be transformative. It validates the experience of the other, and hopefully, the next time we encounter difference, we look a bit harder, see a bit clearer, and know that our differences don't deny our connectedness.
